If ever you have an argument about visiting England or having a beach holiday, go to Cornwall! There's even some decent surfing if that takes your fancy. Cornwall has a great character to it, having its own culture as one of the Celtic areas of the British Isles. Towns like Penzance, St Ives, Newquay, Truro, etc, all have their own local feel, and everything is just a few minutes' drive away from a beach, a cove or some rugged cliffs. I took the picture here in April 2009. It shows Porthcurno beach, between Penzance and Land's End. It is taken from the edge of the open air Minack theatre. Foodies will enjoy Cornish Pasties, which were adopted in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as a local speciality thanks to the Cornish tin miners that crossed the Atlantic, and of course the cream tea, an English treat that has its own local variant in Cornwall with clotted cream. Oh and Cornish cider is probably better than that brewed in Somerset.
