Helsinki, Finland

Temppeliaukio Helsinki was an interesting little city, with some nice architecture, particularly from its time under Russian rule. However, for once it was a piece of modern architecture that stood out for me. The Temppeliaukio, or Church of the Rock, is just incredible.

I no longer have the pic I took there, but here's one I found on a website belonging to Randall McPherson. The church is built into bedrock. Amazing atmosphere in there and terrific acoustics.

When I was there, they were playing some recorded Sibelius, one particular piece I can't think of at the moment but it was a great piece of music and really inspirational without the setting. If ever you are near Finland make a trip here.
